Attendance & Absence.

Certification requires a minimum of 80% attendance. This page explains how attendance is recorded, what happens if you fall below, and how absence is excused.

For review. This text was drafted to meet the structure BQA and the Bahrain PDPL expect. The centre must confirm the specifics - licence numbers, named officers and timescales - before it is treated as final.

1The 80% rule

A learner must attend at least 80% of the scheduled hours of a course to be certified. This is a condition of certification, not a target. It applies to classroom and live online sessions alike, and it is a requirement of our awarding bodies and of the funders who sponsor our learners.

On a 40-hour course, 80% is 32 hours — which leaves 8 hours, and no more, for absence of any kind.

2How attendance is recorded

The trainer records attendance at every session, in the portal, on the day. Online sessions are recorded the same way; joining late or leaving early is recorded as partial attendance for the hours actually attended.

You can see your own attendance at any time in the portal. Check it. If a session is wrong, tell your trainer or the coordinator within 5 working days of that session, while it can still be verified.

3Absence

Tell the centre before the session where you possibly can — your trainer, the coordinator, or +973 1723 3323.

Absence may be recorded as excused where it is supported by evidence: a medical certificate, a bereavement, a legal or government obligation, or an employer instruction for a sponsored learner. Send the evidence within 5 working days of returning.

An excused absence is still an absence for the 80% calculation. What it changes is how the centre responds to it, and whether a catch-up can be arranged.

4If you fall behind

  1. Below 90% — the trainer raises it with you directly.
  2. Below 85% — the coordinator contacts you in writing, and a catch-up plan is agreed where the schedule allows. The funder of a sponsored learner may be informed at this point.
  3. Below 80% — you are formally notified that you are no longer on track to be certified, and what the remaining options are.

5Falling below 80%

Where attendance ends below 80%, the certificate is not issued. Depending on the course and the awarding body, the centre may be able to offer:

  • repeating the missed sessions with a later batch, where one is running;
  • transfer to a later batch, where the course has not progressed too far;
  • a letter confirming the hours actually attended, which is not a certificate.

Where the course is Tamkeen-sponsored or employer-funded, the funder is informed, and their own rules on fees and repeat attendance will apply.

6Punctuality and leaving early

Sessions begin on time. Arriving more than 15 minutes late, or leaving before the end, is recorded as partial attendance — those minutes do not count toward your 80%.

7Appeals

If you believe your attendance record is wrong, or that a decision based on it has not taken your circumstances into account, use the Complaints & Appeals procedure.
